Urgent…Maliki calls Talabani to check validity of signature presented to him

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Premier Nouri al-Maliki called upon the President Jalal Talabani to “display what he possesses of signatures submitted for the withdrawal of confidence from his government to criminal investigation department.”

Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) received a copy of Maliki ‘s statement on Monday which said that “The attempts of some parties which try to exploit the democratic life which we peacefully agreed on its maintenance to achieve particular political objectives, have created concerns about the possibility of exposing the democratic process to danger.”

He added that “The process of organizing lists of some of the MPs recently was combined with many of unconstitutional and law violation practices through collecting their signatures outside the parliament, whether by threats, fraud, extortion or other practices that some of the citizens realized through the media or we have been informed about it by direct calls and complaints we received from many of the MPs in this concern and their demands to promote their protection.”

The statement continued saying “These complaints urge me to warn from these practices and their consequences on the integrity of the democratic process.”

He concluded his statement by calling the President of the Republic, Jalal Talabani, as the guardian of the Constitution, to note the compatibility of these practices with the standards of constitutional and legal rules and to display the signatures for the criminal investigation department for verification of the validity of these signatures,” noting that “The security departments should bring all of those, who committed fraud or threat against MPs or exercised any violation for the law, to justice to face punishment in order to preserve the integrity of democratic life.”
