Basra citizens intend to sue Minister of Electricity, says Awad

Basra (IraqiNews.com) MP Uday Awad of the Ahrar bloc from Basra province revealed that “The people of Basra intend to sue the Minister of Electricity and the General Inspector of the Ministry due to their ignoring for the rights of the people in the province.”

MP Awad reported in press statement during his meeting with social figures in Basra that ”Some of the Sheikhs, elders, social figures, clerics and religious representatives of Basra province intend to sue the Minister of Electricity Abdul Kareem Aftan and the General Inspector of the Ministry Ala’a Muhy al-Din due to their ignoring for the rights of Basra’s people represented by enjoying electricity power.”

He added that ”The people of Basra have the right to be supplied with electricity power which is one of the basic rights that they need.”

The member of Oil and Energy Parliamentary Committee explained that ”When the electricity system collapsed the General Inspector accused Basra province of exceeding its share of power and considered this overtaking the main reason in collapsing the electricity system,” noting that “Many provinces suffered the same problem although the electricity returned to many provinces while Basra still suffers of major lack in electricity power.”
