Shahristani, EU delegation, discuss situation of oil sector

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Deputy Prime Minster for Energy Affairs Hussein al-Shahristani discussed with a delegation from the European Union, involved foreign Ministers of Sweden, Bulgaria, and Poland in attendance of the Iraqi Minister for Foreign Affairs Hoshyar Zebari, the situation in the Iraqi oil sector and ways of strengthening the bonds of the bilateral relations.

A statement by Sharistani’s office cited “Shahristani reviewed during the meeting, the means of developing the oil sector in Iraq especially in the fields of oil and gas production.”

“Shahristani also discussed the updates on the Syrian arena, indicating Iraq’s support to the democratization project in Syria,” the statement added.

He expressed Iraq’s concerns towards the expiatory elements which attempt to create sectarian conflicts among the Syrian people and fears of affecting the region,” stressing Iraq’s position that “refuses armament of both conflicting sides.”

He also emphasized the necessity to stick to the reform plan of UN representative Kofi Annan.

It is worth to mention that a delegation from the EU included the Foreign Ministers of Bulgaria, Poland and Sweden have arrived in Baghdad on Saturday in an official visit where they met with senior Iraqi officials.
