Jaafary, Maliki agree to resort for constitution to settle crisis

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Iraqi National Alliance, Ibrahim al-Jaafary, discussed with the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, the updates on the political arena and the means for settling the current political crisis.

Both sides assured during a press conference held after the meeting that “The constitution is the only base for any settlement for the political crisis.”

A statement by the INA cited “Both Jaafary and Maliki stressed the necessity to hold dialogue among all sides without exception and discussing all the problems that face the political process as well as the proposals submitted earlier in compliance with the constitution.”

During the press conference held after the meeting, Jaafary said “We believe that the current atmosphere became more realistic to guarantee the success of dialogue which will be a corner stone for overcoming all disputes on the political arena.”

For his part, the Premier Nouri al-Maliki mentioned that “We want to build our country and face all the challenges to present services for all citizens and establish a solid State that protect and serve its citizens.”

He added “We welcome all the concluded agreements and submitted proposals but we stress that these agreements and proposals were started with adhering to constitution,” noting that “I have mentioned many times that the constitution is clearly violated by the louder voice on the arena and I have clarified that we cannot proceed in the political process with all these intended violations which are intended to hurdle the performance of the government.”

Maliki also criticized the performance of the Parliament describing it as “Standing silent towards the clear and serious violations committed in the field of oil, disputed areas or the foreign relations issue.”

Maliki stressed “I have suggested to Mr. Jaafary that if the other side rejected the national dialogue, and they absolutely reject it, we will go to Parliament to tell Iraqis to look on the current situation and discuss our issues in the parliament to realize who violates the constitution and who is not.”
