Maliki: Federal Government to decide about Iraqi Foreign Policy

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stressed that “The foreign policy of the country is set by the Federal Government.”

A statement by the Prime Minister’s office received on Monday a number of journalists and educated people in Baghdad where he said addressing them “The State should be built on sound bases away from discrimination.”

He added “Iraqis of different religions or sects should not argue over the unity, sovereignty and security of Iraq.”

Concerning the Syrian case, he said “Iraq insists on adopting a balanced policy based on avoiding interfering in Syrian internal affairs,” noting that “We rejected through this policy to allow smuggling weapons or assistance through Iraqi territories to the Syrian Regime or the Syrian opposition but we encouraged dialogue and political settlement through Syrian people.”
