Shahristani, Japex - Petronas Consortium discuss developing Gharraf oil fields

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Hussein al-Shahristani, called upon the consortium of the Japanese JAPEX and Petronas to speed up the development of Gharraf oil fields in Maysan province and those of eastern Baghdad, showing “readiness to provide facilitations that would eliminate the obstacles facing the work of the Company.”

A statement issued by the office of Shahristani, received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) stated that “Shahristani received Sunday a delegation representing the consortium of Japanese JAPEX and Petronas led by Osamu Watanabe, chairman of JAPEX and discussed with them the development of Gharraf and eastern Baghdad oil fields.”

The Statement added that “The delegation gave a detailed explanation on the work of the coalition of its companies in the field of al-Gharraf,” saying that “It will start in the next two days a training center for unemployed people in various fields.”

The statement continued saying that “Both sides also suggested the establishment of a power plant of 150 megawatts which will use gas produced from the field,” explaining that “The middle of next year, 2013, will witness producing more than 100,000 barrels per day from Gharraf field.”
