Allaq: Maliki’s invitation for Iraqis in Syria to return to Iraq means “General Pardon”

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Ali al-Allaq of the State of Law Coalition described the call of the Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki for some Iraqis living in Syria to return to Iraq due to the ongoing violence there as “a general amnesty for opponents of the new political system who were not involved in terrorist acts.”

MP al-Allaq told Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “Maliki undoubtedly intended to announce a general amnesty through his call to these people who have a political opinion or perhaps statements that oppose the new political system in Iraq, but were not involved in shedding Iraqi blood or contributed or carried out terrorist acts.”

The Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has called on Iraqis living in Syria to return to their country and promised to pardon all those who have taken negative attitudes but were not involved in blood shedding of innocents.

Al-Maliki said in a statement Friday “In the difficult security conditions experienced by our brothers and our sons in Syria, we call them, men, women and children to return to their country to live all in peace and security.”

He renewed in his statement “Iraq is for all Iraqis, there is no distinction anymore among citizens on the basis of religion or sect.”
