MP: Customs request two years to apply customs tariff

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Director General of the Customs, Munthir Abdul Ameer, called to postpone applying the customs tariff law in Iraq for two years.

The member of the Parliamentary Committee for the Investment and Economy, Abdul Abbas Sheya, stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The Committee held a meeting on last Wednesday with Abdul Ameer in addition to some representatives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.”

“The Committee considers postponing applying the customs tariff for two years as a constitutional breach because it was endorsed by the parliament and should be applied,” he added.

“There are many reason behind the request to postpone applying the customs tariff such as the lack of control on many border inlets, especially in Kurdistan Region,” he pointed out.

He assured “If the customs tariff was not applied in all the border inlets, it will not be successful in addition to the lack of the international system where the customs tariff does not allow any illegal goods to enter the country.”
