Sihail, Kobler discuss forming IHEC, political situation in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The First Deputy Speaker, Qusay al-Sihail, and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, discussed “The issue of forming the Independent High Electoral Commission as well as the developments on the regional and Iraqi political arenas in addition to the future role of the UNAMI in Iraq.”

A statement by office received by IraqiNews.com cited “Sihail received Kobler and the accompanying delegation at his office in Baghdad on Wednesday,” noting that “Sihail stressed the necessity of speeding up settling the issue of the new IHEC formation due to the approaching elections which requires preparations.”

“He confirmed that the IHEC in Iraq represents a prominent side of the democratic process and the parliament will settle this issue soon,” the statement added.

“Sihail emphasized reaching internal settlement for the current political crisis without foreign interferences,” the statement continued.

“For his part, Kobler reviewed the performance of the UNAMI during the last stage in addition to its future plans,” the statement concluded.
