Source uncover to Iraqi News Tuesday attack details

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A security source, who works in Anti-Terrorism Department, reveled “The details of the armed attack which targeted the building of the Anti-Terrorism Department in Karrada area of central Baghdad.”

The source, who preferred not to be named, reported to IraqiNews.com that ”The gunmen who implemented the attack were about ten to fifteen persons wearing the uniform of the Anti-Terrorism elements and they were driving military vehicle (Jeep) type,” noting that “The gunmen entered the building from the back gate, near the building of Rusafa Criminal Court, which contain garage for parking vehicles belong to the employees of the Anti-Terrorism Department.”

The source added that ”A car bomb was detonated, in Wassiti Street of Karrada area, before the implementation of the attack operation, then, the gunmen started the attack by throwing hand grenades and they acutely managed to reach the building but the violent armed clashes which broke out between the security forces and the gunmen resulted in killing most of the gunmen except the three suicide bombers who managed to enter the building.”

The source pointed out that ”The violent clashes lasted for several hours resulted in killing many elements of the security forces,” noting that “Based on the initial investigation the gunmen were intending to release (400) Qaeda leaders who were jailed inside the building of the Anti-Terrorism Department but the security forces foiled this attempt.”

The source explained that ”The SWAT forces, which conducted this operation, within Intelligence Directorate of Interior Ministry broke in to the building through its two entrances the main gate and the back gate.”

Earlier, two car bombs exploded in Baghdad on last Tuesday resulted in killing and injuring (65) persons.

The Ministry of Interior declared that ”Its forces managed to foil a terrorist attack targeting the Anti-Terrorism Department building .

The Anti-Terrorism Body announced that the building became empty of gunmen who attack the building for five hours, before the security forces could overcame them, and the attack cost the gunmen killing eight elements and five explosive vests.
