Sadrist MP: Powerful sides intend to postpone provincial elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Hussein al-Mansouri of the Ahrar Bloc within the Sadr Trend accused some powerful sides in the State, he did not name, of trying to delay provincial and districts elections.

He said in a statement to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) on Thursday that “Some influential parties in the State is trying to block the approval of the law draft of the provincial and districts elections, because they may lose part of their benefits in the next elections.”

He added that “Most of the members of the provincial councils, districts and sub districts are not prepared properly and did no observe their responsibilities towards the country,” stressing that “The situation in Basra province is the best example for this failure.”

He emphasized the “Necessity to hold provincial elections and granting provincial councils greater powers to take its real role in the community.”
