Turkish FM meets Iraqi Heads of Sunni, Shiite Endowments

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmed Davutoglu, met with the Heads of the Shiite and Sunni Endowments, Saleh al-Haidari, and, Ahmed Abdul Ghafour al-Samarrai, under an invitation from the Head of Turkish Religious Affairs Bureau, Mohamed Ghurmuz.

A statement braodcast by Official Turkish Sat channel TRT quoted Davutoglu as saying “An agreement was reached concerning adopting common stance against the sectarian tensions that have begun to emerge recently in the Middle East.”

Davutoglu stressed that “They feel very grateful for showing common stance against all the religious and sectarian tensions in the Middle East,” stressing that “Our essential policy is to see our Sunni and Shiite people live in an atmosphere of peace.”

“The Turkish FM reiterated his wish to stop the clashes in Syria as soon as possible and called to protect all holy places,” the statement added.

It is worth to mention that the relations between Iraq and Turkey witnessed tensions after the Turkish official statements that criticized the Government of Iraq and accused it of revoking sedition strife which prompted the Iraqi Government to protest against these remarks, considering them as interference in the internal affairs of Iraq.
