CoM approves constructing Babel Central Prison

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Justice Hassan al-Shimmery confirmed that “The Council of Ministers has approved building the Babel Central Prison and granting of financial allocations needed to construct the Prison in a period no more than three years.”

A statement by the Ministry of Justice to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) mentioned that “Shimmery met with a US delegation that included two American Judicial investigators, Clay Jones and Michael Lahr, as well as Prisons Consultant Tim shop in his office in Baghdad,” noting that “The Ministry has benefited from the American experience in the field of the planning, designing and management of prisons in the development of the work of the correction facilities in Iraq.”

“During the meeting, Minister Shimmery confirmed that the Council of Ministers approved to construct Babel Central Prison,” the statement added.

The statement mentioned “For his part, the US Investigator Lahr assured that the Iraqi Correction Institute became a model in security, administrative and professional dealing in practicing the Human Rights criteria with the residents of Iraqi Prisons, expressing readiness of the US side to provide technological support for the Ministry in this aspect.”

“Both sides also discussed necessity to develop the Real Estates Registration Offices, and accomplishing the necessary aspects for the Electronic Archiving project which is financed by the US Government,” the statement concluded.
