Kurdish MP: Kurdistan Region not to secede from Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Sharif Suleiman, of Kurdistani Alliance cpnfirmed that “Kurdistan Region is willing not to secede from Iraq,” noting that “Kurdistan Regional Government is satisfied to stay as part of the federal Iraq.”

Suleiman added in a statement to IraqiNews.com “The Kurds have the right to announce independence like all other nations but we will not announce the Kurdish State.”

“We still practice only the privileges and rights granted by the Constitution to the Kurds,” he stressed.

“Kurdistan Region was formed before the fall of the former regime and before the current political process where it announced independence in 1991 and currently it enjoys the rights awarded by the Constitution,” he concluded.

It is worth to mentioning that the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government witness tensions for several months over issues related to political and Constitutional disputes in addition to some pending issues including the administration of the oil revenues, Article (no. 140), controlling the borders and armament Peshmerga forces, as well as other issues.
