White bloc rejects canceling death penalty

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The White bloc announced “Its rejection for canceling the death penalty,” calling to “Implement it against the convicts to ensure justice for the side of the victims’ families.”

A statement by The Secretary General of the White bloc, Jamal al-Batiekh, cited “In 2003, the death penalty was canceled but after the increasing terrorist operations, the government decided to resume implementing this capital penalty to restraint terrorism.”

“Those who call for human rights for the killers and the terrorists should pay attention for the victims’ families,” he added.

He rejected “Canceling this judicial sentence because it is the only mean to restraint terrorists and killers.”

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Justice, Hasan al-Shimmari, pointed out previously that “Only the legislative authority has the right to stop implementing the death penalties issued by the judicial sides.”

He assured that “The Ministry of Justice is obliged to implement the Iraqi laws,”

Earlier the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq expressed concerns over implementing the death penalty in Iraq calling to stop implementing death penalties.
