Tharib: Statement over suspending Parliament\

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Ziyad al-Tharib, of the Iraqiya Slate responded to the call of the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Ali al-Allaq to suspend the parliament, describing it as “Statements that target the legislative institution where Allaq cannot suspend the parliament, but the parliament can suspend his post.”

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he stated “Suspending or dissolution the parliament is the end of democracy in Iraq and the beginning of a new phase,” pointing out “The current issues do not request to suspend the parliament because it is the highest legislative authority in Iraq and the government was formed according to it where the Council of Ministers and Allaq cannot suspend this institution which elected the government and can dismiss it.”

“The parliament can suspend the performance of the government, but the government cannot because the constitution states that the authority of the parliament is with the MPs where the Iraqi system is parliamentary one,” he concluded.

Earlier, the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Ali al-Allaq, called “The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, to conduct the second phase of the Governmental Reduction due to the pressures,” urging “Maliki to suspend the parliament performance.”
