Maliki describes Turkey’s intervention in Syrian crisis as rude

(IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, described the Turkish intervention in the Syrian crisis as “rude.”

In response to a question raised during an interview with the Russian Interfax News Agency, Maliki said “The international community should stop Turkey from interfering in the Syria affairs especially it intends to involve the NATO forces in Syria and this is a very serious matter.”

“Turkey wants to intervene in the internal Syrian affairs under the pretext of protecting Turkey from the bombardment of the Syrian aircrafts on the Turkish border areas,” according to Maliki, who noted that “This policy may lead to wage war in the region as a whole, therefore the Syrian crisis must be settled peacefully and to allow the Syrian people to determine their fate.”

Concerning his assessment for the Russian stance towards the Syrian crisis and the attempts to topple the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, Maliki assured “The Iraqi and Russian attitudes are very close as we think that the only solution to resolve the Syrian crisis is to adopt a peaceful resolution because the military intervention or using force would lead to festering the unrests in Syria and then in the entire region.”
