Zamili: Security & Defense Committee to supervise Iraqi-Russian weapons contracts
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Member of the Security and Defense Parliamentary Committee, Hakim al-Zamili, assured that his committee “seeks to follow up the weapons contracts that will be concluded between Iraq and Russia during the current visit of the Iraqi Premier, Nouri al-Maliki to Moscow.”
He stated to Iraqi News “The Security and Defense Committee will supervise the armament contracts with the Russian side to avoid any corruption or bad effects,” noting that “Members of the Parliamentary S&D Committee should have been accompanying Maliki’s delegation to practice its supervisory role.”
MP Zamili expressed his regret that “Members of the Committee have not been invited to accompany Maliki’s delegation to Russia.”
“We believe that the reason behind this step is to avoid supervision of the Parliament on these aspects to ensure continuity of corruption,” he concluded.
