Iraq supports Ibrahimi’s call to stop fighting in Syria during Eid al-Adha days

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Government announced its support for the call of the UN and Arab Joint Envoy, al-Akhdhar al-Ibrahimi, to halt the fighting between the two conflict’s sides in Syria during Eid al-Adha days.

A statement by the Iraqi Premier, Nouri al-Maliki mentioned on Thursday “The Government of Iraq confirms its full support to Ibrahimi’s initiative to declare a truce to stop the violence in Syria during next Eid al-Adha.”

“We renew our call to reject the violence and resort to a peaceful settlement for the escalating crisis in Syria to avoid more bloodshed and carnages in Syria and the region as a whole,” it added.

Earlier, the UN-Arab Joint Envoy called the ruling Syrian regime and the opposition parties to stop the fighting and armed attacks during Eid al-Adha days.
