Haidari calls parliament to endorse law draft to stop defaming officials

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The former head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Faraj al-Haidari, called the parliament to endorse a law draft that stops defaming officials in the state.

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said ” I were completely confident that the Iraqi judicial sides proved that I am not guilty, but unfortunately the accusations against me affected the IHEC and its employees,” noting that “The former IHEC dealt in flexibility with the elections and had performed its tasks with integrity in spite of the bad security situations that it faced.”

He called “The parliament to endorse a law draft that stops defaming the officials without having the required evidences.”

Earlier, the Supreme Judicial Council announced , on the 12th of April, arresting Haidari and the Commissioner of the IHEC, Karim al-Timimi, over corruption charges, assuring that they will be in prison for seven year, but on the 15th of April, the SJC announced that they were released on bail.
