IAEA receives Zebari’s letter over Iraq’s ratification of Additional Protocol

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), based in Vienna, received a letter from Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, on Iraq’s ratification of the Additional Protocol of the agency officially.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by IraqiNews.com on Thursday cited “The handover was conducted in a ceremony between the Permanent Representative of Iraq in Vienna, Ambassador Surood Najib, and the General Manager of the agency, Yukiya Amano.”

“Amano welcomed the step taken by Iraq within the framework of international commitment to nuclear disarmament through the ratification of the Additional Protocol,” the statement added, noting that “He considered Iraq’s gesture as a milestone in its record to exit Chapter VII.”

“For his part, Iraq’s Permanent Representative stressed the importance of including that in the IAEA message to the President of the UN Security Council,” the statement concluded.
