Maliki, Iranian official discuss eliminating sectarianism in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, expressed his hope to reduce sectarian and the tribal disputes in Iraq.

Iranian Mehr News Agency reported that “The Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in Iran, Mohsen Araki, confirmed during his meeting with Maliki that the aim of the forum is to create harmony among the various Islamic sects on the basis of a common ground.”

“Araki assured that the forum aims at eliminating hatred among the Islamic societies by asserting the Islamic identity,” the statement added.

“He also called to consolidate the contacts between the forum and the Islamic scholars, the university students, youth as well as the tribal communities in Iraq,” the statement continued.

“For his part, Maliki welcomed the issue of bringing about Proximity among the Islamic sects in Iraq and assured its cooperation to spread the culture of proximity in the Islamic world,” the statement indicated.

“Araki met the Iraqi Minister of Transport and the Secretary General of Badr Organization, Hadi al-Amiri, who expressed Badr’s readiness to support the program of the forum in Iraq,” the statement concluded.
