Kobler welcomes specifying date for next PCs elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the Secretary General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, welcomed “The agreement between the Government and the Independent High Electoral Commission over specifying April, 20th, 2013 as a date for conducting the elections of the Provincial Councils.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “Specifying the date for the PCs elections will pave the way towards a wide participation of all Iraqis and to plan organizing the elections,” emphasizing “The role of the women, young people, Non-Governmental Organizations and the political parties in all the stages of the elections.”

“UNAMI presented the support for seven electoral processes conducted in Iraq,” he added, noting that “The IHEC, since its formation in 2007, worked hardly to sustain its adherence to the constitution.”

“UNAMI is still committed to present all kinds of support for the IHEC to conduct the elections,” he concluded.

It is worth mentioning that the Council of Ministers identified April of 2013 as a date for conducting the elections of the Provincial Councils.

The spokesman of the Government, Ali al-Dabbagh, stated to IraqiNews.com “The Council of Ministers decided to approve the proposal of the Independent High Electoral Commission to determine 20, 4, 2013.”
