Shihristani announces releasing 880 prisoners from Corrections Departments

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Ministerial Committee formed to follow up the demonstrators’ demands, Hussein al-Shihristani, announced releasing 880 prisoners from the Correction Departments since the start of the performance of the Committee.

In a joint press conference with the Justice Minister and the State Minister, Safa al-Din al-Safi, Shihristani said “There are 24 criminal courts in Iraq, except Kurdistan Region, and 190 investigating courts in addition to a central investigating court to discuss the prisoners’ cases.”

“All the courts release the prisoners with or without bails,” he added, noting that “880 prisoners were released from the Correction Departments since the start of the Ministerial Committee.”

“The courts release the prisoners and inform their families to receive them,” he concluded.
