IHEC: No exception for any province to postpone local elections

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Independent High Electoral Commission announced that the provincial elections law does not include any exception for any province to postpone its elections.

The member of the Commissioners Board, Kilshan Kamal, stated to IraqiNews.com on Monday “We did not receive any formal request from Anbar provincial Council concerning postponing the local elections in the province, but in principle, the provincial elections law does not authorize any province to postpone the local elections.”

“The local elections law covers all the provinces that are not associated to Regions except Kurdistan Region,” she added noting “The Commissioners Board will consider Anbar PC request if received formally.”

Anbar PC has voted on Monday, on the request forwarded to the Independent High Electoral Commission over postponing the next provincial elections in the province for security reasons.
