Urgent – .Hakim describes postponing local elections in Anbar, Nineveh as very serious step

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, upheld on Wednesday, the politicians who objected the postponement of the next local elections in some provinces, describing this decision as very worrying step.

Hakim said on Wednesday “Postponing the upcoming provincial elections is very serious and worrying step and cannot be adopted whatsoever since the local elections have political and social dimensions, therefore they must be conducted according to their indentified date as per the constitution.”

“Such a decision should be consulted with the Independent High Electoral Commission, the parliament and the security forces rather than taking it exclusively,” he stressed.
