Nijaifi, US Ambassador discuss political situation in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Osama al-Nijaifi, discussed the political scene in Iraq with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Steven Beecroft.

A statement by the parliament reported “Nijaifi received Beecroft in Baghdad where they expressed concerns over postponing the local elections in Anbar and Nineveh provinces.”

“The Government’s decision of postponing the local elections in the two provinces is not based on legal item,” Nijaifi stressed.

“Both sides agreed that the elections is one of the key principles to build democracy and sound political process,” according to the statement.
