EU stresses its support for Iraq while confronting serious challenges

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The European Union stressed its support to Iraq while confronting the current increasing challenges according to the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement concluded between Iraq and the EU.

A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday “The Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zibari received at the ministry’s building, Ambassadors and head of the EU in Iraq.”

“Ambassadors and representatives of 17 European countries attended the meeting where EU’s head reviewed the results of the ministerial meeting for EU Foreign Ministers which was held on 22nd, last April in Luxembourg over the situations in Iraq,” the statement added.

“The meeting was concluded by stressing the EU’s eagerness to build strong and long-lasting partnership with Iraq based on mutual interest, also it confirmed the EU’s supporting attitude to Iraq in its efforts to confront the serious challenges according to the cooperation and partnership agreement between the EU and Iraq,” according to the statement.

For his part, Zibari emphasized that “Iraq estimates the EU’s concern towards the situation in Iraq and its support for the country in light of the hard conditions lived by the region,” noting “Yet, the political process in Iraq is in continuous progress.”

“The meeting highlighted the need to continue dialogue and contact between the Iraqi government and the EU representatives and Ambassadors concerning the Syrian crisis. Also, the Iraqi minister informed the attendees about Iraq’s stance towards the entry of the PKK to Iraq coming from Turkey despite the Iraqi government’s rejection,” The statement concluded.
