Iraq adopts 2014 Year for Environment

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Ministry of Environment announced 2014 a Year for Endowment, calling on all the ministries and parliament to support this initiative and adopt projects that help improve the environmental situation in Iraq.”

Environmental experts stated that “The wars residues and wastes represent the major challenge for the environment in Iraq. Former minister for Environment stressed that all the governmental and civilian sides are responsible for the environmental backwardness in the country.”

A statement by the MoE received by IraqiNews.com on Tuesday reported that “The Minister of Environment, Sergoun Saliwa, announced that the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki decided, during the last meeting of the National Commission for Waters, to adopt 2014 a Year for Environment.”

The ministry of Environment called on all the MPs, ministries, all other institutions, civil society organizations and citizens to back this initiative and adopt projects which help improve the environmental posture in Iraq.
