Muhamadi: Symbolic meeting must be followed by other steps to reduce tensions

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Waleed al-Muhamadi, of the Iraqiya Slate assured “The symbolic meeting must be followed by other steps to reduce political tensions.”

He stated to IraqiNews.com “The tensed atmospheres that Iraqis experienced during the last weeks obliged the political leaders to prove at least their readiness for conducting the dialogue.”

“I think it is important to take serious and practical steps to reform the situation and to respond to the demonstrators’ demands,” he mentioned.

“This meeting is not important without reaching results that serve the country,” he concluded.

Earlier, the Symbolic meeting of the national political sides was held at the office of the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, on last Saturday.

A number of the political key leaders attended the meeting including the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, and the Deputy Premier, Salih al-Mutleg, as well as the representatives of the President Masoud Barzani, in addition to a number of Ministers.

A statement by UNAMI confirmed that the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, welcomed the meeting.
