Maliki stresses need to change current electoral system to ensure political majority

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, confirmed the necessity to change the current electoral system before conducting the coming legislative elections because this system does not achieve the political majority.

Saint Lego law accredited in the Iraqi elections distributes the votes on the blocs in a way that any entity cannot preserve the majority.

Maliki said in an interview “The current law will lead to difficulties in forming the major blocs and the political majority as well as in making decisions.”

On other hand, Maliki described some sides’ calls to form regions as political,” noting “The government did not receive the names of the negotiating delegation of the demonstrators so far.”
