Zibari, Ambassadors of Permanent Member States discuss relieving Iraq from UN sanctions

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zibari, discussed with Ambassadors of the Five Permanent Member States at the UN Security Council accredited to Iraq and the UN Deputy envoy to Iraq, the possibility to issue a decision at the UNSC concerning relieving Iraq from the UN Charter’s 7th Chapter.

A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry cited “Zibari met with Ambassadors of the Permanent Member States to brief them on Iraq’s attitude on the current talks so as to issue a new resolution by the Security Council about exempting Iraq from the UN sanctions stated in the Seventh Chapter.”

Zibari urged to issue “clear decision over Iraq’s commitment to its international obligations stated by the Security Council related to the Iraq-Kuwait bilateral relations.”

The Iraqi FM expressed “the Iraqi government’s appreciation to the Permanent Member States’ supporting attitude to each of Iraq and Kuwait in their efforts to resolve the remaining issues caused by invasion of Kuwait.”

For their part, the Ambassadors commended the great efforts Iraq and Kuwait exerted to peacefully settle their pending issues.”
