Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan criticized the opposition’s objection for extending the Presidency and Parlaimentary terms.

The leadership council of the PUK held a meeting on July 3, in relation to recent political development in the political sphere of Kurdistan region.

The Leadership Council of PUK issued a statement in regard Tuesday’s meeting disclosing to the public the agendas of the meeting.

The statement reveals that the meeting against all odds was a success. It ended up with huge emphasis on unity in Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The statement assured “The meeting brought into light the recent parliamentary and presidency terms by Kurdistan RegionG Parliament on June 30, PUK preparation for fair and free elections, and also PUK organizational preparations for PUK candidates for the coming September elections among people with a heavy participation from the grassroots to deepen the principles of participatory politics in Kurdistan Region.”

“The Leadership Council meeting praised the extension of presidency and parliamentary terms as national achievements,” the statement continued, noting that “The meeting expressed PUK leadership happiness about the promises to adjust the Kurdistan RegionG draft constitution through national consensus. The meeting considered this a national success in the best interest of Kurdish nation.”

The statement continued “The PUK slams Kurdistan region opposition parties for media campaigns against Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) following the presidency term extension.”

“It becomes clear that the opposition parties media campaign are for internal consumption and that what PUK has done is in the best interest of Kurdistan region,” according to the statement.

“PUK also promises to also prioritize national interests and common good in its decision-making and policy-making processes,” the statement concluded.
