IHEC describes implementing Article (8) of Elections law of Kurdistan Region as "Unbelievable"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Independent High Electoral Commission described implementing Article (8) of the Elections law of Kurdistan Region over assigning the representatives of the political parties in the electoral centers as “Unbelievable.”

A statement by the IHEC received by IraqiNews.com cited “While preparing for the elections of Kurdistan Region in 2013, the IHEC is facing a great challenge over implementing Article (8) of the Elections law of Kurdistan Region No. (1) in 1992 that obliges the IHEC to assign the representatives of the political parties.”

“It is difficult to implement this Article because it makes the IHEC dependent and lacks the control over those representatives,” the statement added,” noting that “The number of the political parties is 31 including the biggest two parties which makes it difficult to fairly distribute the duties of the IHEC among the representatives.”

“Rejecting implementing this Article is according to the international standards where the international teams of the United Nations preserved over implementing it and we will hold this Article as what was done in the elections of 2995 and 2009,” the statement concluded.
