Zebari meets his Egyptian, Algerian Counterparts in Cairo

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, his Egyptian counterpart Nabil Fahmi, at the headquarters of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in Cairo.

A statement by the Forign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com cited “The two sides reviewed the bilateral relations and activation of the Joint Iraqi-Egyptian Committee and ways of strengthening the strategic dialogue between the two countries.”

“Zebari expressed Iraq’s support for the will of the Egyptian people, and its full support for the current roadmap in Egypt to overcome the transitional phase. He also confirmed Iraq’s stand with the Egyptian brothers to activate economic and trade agreements between the two countries and to support the Egyptian economy,” the statement added.

“They discussed a number of issues of common concern and the most important developments of the Syrian crisis. They emphasized the need to turn to peaceful and political solutions, in addition to the importance of reforming the Arab League and its mechanisms for more expression of the Arab citizens’ aspirations where Fahmy expressed his intention to visit Iraq in the near future,” the statement pointed out.

“Zebari also received in Cairo, Mourad Medelsi, Algerian Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation where they discussed developments of the relations between the two brotherly countries and ways of enhancing them at all levels Zebari invited his Algerian counterpart to visit Iraq. The two sides reviewed developments in the Middle East and challenges of the Syrian crisis and its effects ,in addition to the efforts to resolve it and consultations for a Geneva II conference,” the statement concluded.
