Zebari, Posten stress necessity of securing residents of Ashraf Camp

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari received the Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary General for the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Posten Georgian.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry received by IraqiNews.com cited “During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of common concern, especially UNAMI tasks, reviewing the events of Camp Ashraf and the government’s decision to open a transparent and objective investigation into the events that led to the death of a number of members of the camp and the circumstances of the incident.”

“They emphasize the government’s commitment to its humanitarian obligations and ensuring the security and safety of residents of Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty and to accelerate the process of resettling them in a third country, especially that their stay in Iraq against the will and sovereignty of the country has become unacceptable,” the statement added.

“Zebari appealed to the UN and world countries to adhere to their obligations by resettling the residents of those camps,” the statement concluded.
