KA MP: Electoral system represents most disputed point in Elections law

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Khalid Shwani, the head of the Parliamentary Legal Committee announced that the disputes over the Elections law are not settled yet.

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “One of the most disputed points in the Elections law is the electoral system where some blocs want to apply Sainte Lague method and other blocs want the amended Sainte-Lague method, whereas others want new methods.”

“There are also disputes over the Close-slate system and Open-slate system in addition to the multiple circles and single circle where a deal might happen over these points by increasing the number of the national seats,” he added.

“The Kurdistani Alliance supports the Open-slate system and we do not have any problem over this point,” he pointed out, assuring that “According to the constitution, the term of the parliament should not be extended and the parliament must adhere to the constitution because it will lose its legacy.”
