FIFA forbids playing 2 matches in inaugurating Basra Sports City

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The FIFA warned Iraq from playing two football matches between the Lebanese Ahd FC and Iraqi Minaa FC along with Iraqi Zawra FC with Egyptian Zamalik FC during the inauguration of the Sports City in Basra on Saturday.

A statement by the FIFA received by IraqiNews.com “The FIFA realized that a football international championship will be held in Basra city to denote inauguration of the Basra Sports City in October with participation of Lebanese and Egyptian teams.”

The statement signed by the Secretary General of the FIFA, Gerom Falka, added “According to the resolution of the FIFA on October 3-4 of 2013which extended the embargo on playing international football matches in Iraq, we would like to inform you that holding such a championship with participation from outside Iraq is a violation for the embargo.”
