Essawi calls to follow diplomatic means over reconsidering holding Gulf Cup in Basra

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Aboud al-Essawi, of the State of Law Coalition stressed the necessity of adhering to the diplomatic means to reconsidering holding the Gulf Cup in Basra.

He stated in a press statement received by IraqiNews.com “Sport the brotherly meeting which is away from policy, but the decision over transferring the Championship from Basra to Jeddah is absolutely political.”

“The Arab countries need championships that express the good relationships among the generations of their peoples, but sectarianism should not be involved in the sport by the Gulf countries,” he added.

“The Gulf Cup needs Iraq to achieve its success because Iraq is one of the prominent participants in the Championship,” he concluded.
