MP calls on Basra to be delcared a disaster area due to floods

MP calls to consider Basra as afflicted province

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Mansour al-Timimi, the Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Regions Committee accused the government of targeting Basra province by not announcing it as the Economic Capital of Iraq.

In a press statement received by Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “Basra must be considered as afflicted city with the lack of services and funds for the service projects.”

“In spite of calling the government and the parliament to reconsider the situation in Basra, unfortunately we did not receive any reply from them where Basra was targeted by not endorsing the law that makes it the Economic Capital of Iraq and the attempts to contest Law 21 in 2008 that could develop it.”

“Despite the lack of services and facing the floods in Basra, the government do not do any humanitarian projects,” he pointed out, assuring that “The oil in Basra province is precious and the human beings are the cheapest thing in the province.”
