NIjaifi, Sharif discuss developing mutual relations

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, met the Pakistani Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, on Saturday.A statement reviewed by IraqiNews.com quoted Sharif as saying during the meeting “There was tremendous potential for trade and commerce between Pakistan and Iraq and the two countries needed to fully exploit it for mutual benefit.””The Pakistani Prime Minister hoped that this visit would provide a new impetus to the parliamentary relations between the two countries,” the statement added.”

Parliaments of both countries can play an important role in addressing the problems confronted by their people,” Sharif stressed according the statement.

“A stable and united Iraq was in the interest of Iraqi people, the region and international peace and security,” he continued.”Pakistan and Iraq enjoyed traditional and friendly relations and Pakistan welcomed the lifting of sanctions from Iraq by the United Nations Security Council,” he confirmed,” noting that “We hope it would lead Iraq towards development and progress.””For his part, Nijaifi thanked the Prime Minister for the hospitality extended to him and expressed the hope that parliamentary relations between the two countries would be further strengthened,” the statement concluded.
