Nijaifi demands political settlement for case of Anbar province

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Osama al-Nijaifi, demanded for a political settlement for the problems in Ramadi and Fallujah cities away from the military options through holding a summit for the leaders of the political powers in Iraq.

A statement by Nijaifi’s office received by IraqiNews.com cited Sunday “The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament received in his office on Sunday the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Nicolay Mladenov where they discussed the updates of the political and security situations in Anbar province.”

“Nijaifi stressed the importance of reaching a political settlement for the problems in Ramadi and Fallujah cities rather than resorting for the military option, through holding a summit and a meeting for the political leaders,” the statement added.

Nijaifi demanded the UN Mission in Iraq to deliver the necessary human and medical equipments for the residents of the two cities as soon as possible.

The statement mentioned that “Mladenov expressed the annoyance of the UN Mission towards the recent events in Anbar which negatively affected the human rights in Iraq.”
