Washington denounces attack on Speaker Nijaifi’s convoy in Mosul

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The United States strongly condemns today’s attack on the convoy of the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Osama al-Nijaifi, in Nineveh province.

A statement received by the US Embassy in Baghdad cited “Speaker Nijaifi has been a strong partner of the United States’ efforts in Iraq and we are grateful that he was unharmed in the attack.”

“The attack exemplifies the danger terrorist groups pose to all Iraqis, and the importance of Iraqi leaders from all communities working together to isolate militant groups from the broader population. The United States stands with the Iraqi people and will continue to work closely with Iraqi political and security leaders to combat those who commit such senseless acts,” the statement concluded.
