Maliki, US Central Commander Gen. Austin discuss mutual cooperation

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Premier, Nouri al-Maliki, discussed with the Commander of U.S. Central Command , Gen. Lloyd Austin , the mutual cooperation.

A statemet by Maliki’s office received by IraqiNews.com “Maliki received Austin and discussed the mutual cooperation in addition to supporting the Iraqi Army in presence of the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad, Robert Beecroft and Assistant Deputy of secretary of State Brett McCorck.”

“Maliki assured that Iraqi forces directed lethal attacks to the terrorists of al-Qaeda and ISIS and those who cooperate with them and will continue to follow them until eliminating them from Iraq in general and Anbar province in particular because of their criminal acts, pointing to the importance of strengthening military cooperation and armaments between the two countries in line with the security agreement signed with United States of America,” the statement added.

“For his part, Gen. Austin confirmed the continued cooperation between the two countries and the U.S willingness to support the Iraqi army in arming and training fields, saying that the fight against terrorism is a common battle and must eradicate these groups because they pose a threat not only to Iraq but the entire region,” the statement concluded. /End
