Washington (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday US President Barack Obama hailed the US-led coalition that conducted overnight airstrikes against ISIS and an aligned group known as Khorasan in Syria. President Obama, before leaving to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, stated that “We’re going to do what is necessary to take the fight to this terrorist group.”

He also added that the airstrikes against ISIS on Monday night were carried out with support from five Arab allies, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain. “America is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with these nations on behalf of our common security,” Obama said, “The strength of this coalition makes clear to the world that this is not just America’s fight alone.”

Today, the US Pentagon conceded though, that the majority of the airstrikes that took place in Syria yesterday, were carried out by the US Air Force.

It is noteworthy that, Russia, the Syrian regime’s main ally, denounced the airstrikes, and considered it a violation of Syria’s sovereignty. However, the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which counts ISIS as an opponent, affirmed that it was notified of the US-led operation in advance.

According to the British-based Human Rights Observatory in Syria, more than 120 militants and eight civilians were killed in the US-led operation. It said the majority of the killed militants were from ISIS and others belonged to Nusra, the parent of an aligned group known as Khorasan.
