U.S., allies carry out 13 airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Syria, Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) U.S. military forces conducted four attacks on Islamic State (IS) forces in Syria Tuesday and allies joined in nine strikes on the group in Iraq, said the U.S. Central Command.

The strikes were conducted as part of Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the terrorist group IS and the threat it poses to Iraq, the region and the wider international community, said the U.S. Central Command in a statement.

In Syria, the four airstrikes were near Kobani, destroying four IS fighting positions and a small IS unit.

In Iraq, two airstrikes near Fallujah destroyed a small IS unit and an IS tank. Four airstrikes near Mosul Dam destroyed a small IS unit, an IS fighting position, an IS vehicle and an IS logistics base. Other strikes were staged west of Baghdad, capital of Iraq, near Sinjar and northwest of Haditha.

The destruction of IS targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group’s ability to project power and conduct operations, the U.S. Central Command said. /End/
