(IraqiNews.com) The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) controlled the Deir ez-Zor military airport east of Syria on Thursday.

The Observatory said in a statement that the ISIS organization managed to control parts of Jufrah village, which was previously controlled by the Syrian regime forces near Deir al-Zour military airport, in an attempt to arrive at the airport gates.

The Observatory revealed that it has certain information on the withdrawal of groups of the regime troops that were stationed in Hawijah Skr near the airport.

Last night, elements of ISIS launched an offensive to take control of Deir al-Zour military airport, where they detonated a car bomb at the entrance to the airport followed by violent clashes between militants and the forces of the Syrian regime. They was able to control many of the nearby buildings of Deir al-Zour military airport.
