(IraqiNews.com) Republican Senator Rand Paul called the US Congress to “formally” declare war on the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), while the discussions in the Senate and House of Representatives on the campaign in Iraq and Syria intensified.

Paul, a potential competitor in the US presidential election in 2016, said in a statement quoted by ‘Reuters’, and followed by IraqiNews.com that, “Right now, this war is illegal until Congress acts pursuant to the Constitution and authorizes it.”

The Kentucky  senator introduced his request to the Council; it seeks to declare a state of war on the terrorist organization that has been targeted by US forces and allies for four months now.

Lawmakers will vote in the coming days on a huge draft law about the defense expenditures, under the name ‘National Defense Authorization Act’, which authorizes arming moderate Syrian opposition in the war against ISIS.
