Abadi orders Karrada district in central Baghdad to be completely demilitarized
(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday, PM and commander of the Armed Forces, Haider al-Abadi ordered Karrada district in central Baghdad to be completely demilitarized.
The spokesman for the Baghdad Operations Command, Brigadier General Saad Maan said in a statement issued Saturday night, obtained by IraqiNews.com, “Abadi ordered Baghdad Operations Command to make Karrada district in central Baghdad a fully demilitarized zone.”
On Saturday, Baghdad Operations Command denied that clashes took place in Karrada district in central Baghdad, saying that what happened was that a group of gunmen, who kidnapped Abbas Muhammadawi, were arrested.
A number of media sources quoting security sources earlier on Saturday as saying that there were violent clashes in Karrada district in central Baghdad.
