(IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, a security source in Basra announced that, a joint force of the Army and the Directorate of Intelligence & Counter-Terrorism has confiscated hundreds of unlicensed pieces of light and medium weapons.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “A joint force of the Iraqi Army and the Directorate of Intelligence & Counter-Terrorism in the Ministry of Interior, under the supervision of the Operations Command, has carried out a wide  inspection operation in the area of  Ezz River (located north of the province) for disarmament,” noting that, “The operation resulted in the confiscation of hundreds of unlicensed pieces of light and medium weapons and a large quantity of ammunition.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “The Army Aviation helicopters took part in this operation,” explaining that, “The purpose of disarmament is to strengthen the security situation and reduce the armed tribal conflicts.”
